At Nu-Tech we begin by assessing your existing wood species, grain pattern, prior finish (if any), and the target colour or reference sample. We then select or formulate a stain to match, apply test panels for approval, and once approved, carry out the full application or supply the matched stain for use.
Because even when the same stain product is used, different wood species (pine vs oak vs maple) have varying natural colour, grain openness and absorption rate. Also prior treatments or finishes can affect absorption. Thus the final appearance differs. Good preparation and testing helps avoid surprises.
A stain generally colours the wood but does not provide full surface protection (from moisture, wear, UV). After staining, a clear protective finish (varnish, polyurethane, water-based or solvent-based) is usually applied to protect the wood and the colour.
It depends on the project: for example, on bare wood one coat of stain may suffice for colour, but if a deeper tone is required you may apply more. For clear finishes, multiple thin coats often give better durability than fewer thick coats. Preparation and conditions also matter.

Yes — when working in the U.S., we ensure that our stains and coatings meet relevant U.S. federal and state environmental and safety regulations (including VOC limitations where applicable). We stay up to date on regional compliance requirements.
Proper preparation is key: the wood should be clean, dry, free of dust, grease, wax or old failed coatings, and sanded appropriately (in the grain direction). On porous or soft woods, a pre-stain conditioner may be advisable to ensure even absorption.
Yes — Nu-Tech works with both interior and exterior wood finishing. For exterior projects we select stains and protective systems specifically engineered for UV exposure, moisture, temperature swings and other weathering factors. The substrate condition, drainage, and maintenance schedule are also part of the specification.
Existing finishes (varnish, paint, sealer) can inhibit stain absorption and affect colour matching. In many cases we may need to remove the old finish, or use a tinted clear coat system, to achieve the correct match. Nu-Tech will evaluate the current finish and advise on the best path.
After completion we provide guidance on proper maintenance and care (cleaning procedures, re-coating intervals, spot repair). We remain available for troubleshooting, supply of matched stain for touch-ups, and ensuring that the finish continues to perform as intended.
